In 2019, a total of 6,715 adolescents received quality age-appropriate family planning education, exceeding the 6,000 targeted. Of this number served, 206 adolescents took any of the following modern family planning methods: implants, intrauterine devices, and injectables. None chose pills. 69.3% of direct beneficiaries in the current year and 23.4% of the beneficiaries in the past 36 months were followed-up through segmented monthly mobile phone text messages or/and face-to-face meetings to enhance adoption of informed family planning choices. To ensure the safety of team members, outreaches were only done in communities with limited unrest and on days when movement was permitted (non-ghost days). Security analysis were conducted every time the team moves to the field.
Positively influencing these young people and being able to see a change in behavior added more steam to the project staff. Being identified as the ones who fed and changed someone’s mindset with useful information has proven the value of our work over the years.
