In 2015, the world welcomed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). CASD (Community Action for Sustainable Development) stood alongside the global community, proud to witness the culmination of over two years of active engagement in consultation meetings and collaboration with the Civil Society worldwide.
Adolescents, often navigating a complex journey into adulthood, face distinct challenges that demand targeted attention. The SDGs, comprising 17 goals and 169 targets, represent a collective effort to address a spectrum of global challenges and foster sustainable development. For CASD, it is an reassurance that the unique needs of adolescents, particularly concerning sexual and reproductive health rights, are not only acknowledged but embedded within the global development agenda.
Throughout the post-2015 development landscape, CASD has tirelessly advocated for the inclusion of sexual and reproductive health rights as integral components of the SDGs. Recognizing the importance of empowering adolescents with accurate information and accessible services, CASD has championed initiatives that go beyond rhetoric, translating advocacy into tangible actions on the ground. CASD’s projects, such as the HIV-free Generation Ice-cream Project and the Girls’ Choice Project, exemplify its commitment to providing a youth-friendly space for adolescents to access crucial sexual and reproductive health information and services. These initiatives not only bridge gaps in awareness but also empower adolescents to make informed choices about their health and well-being.
As the world progresses towards the 2030 deadline for the SDGs, CASD remains steadfast in its advocacy efforts. The organization recognizes that sustainable development is incomplete without addressing the unique challenges faced by adolescents, particularly in the realm of sexual and reproductive health.
In embracing the SDGs, CASD has not merely endorsed a global agenda; it has actively contributed to shaping an inclusive and holistic vision of sustainable development—one that recognizes and uplifts the rights of adolescents, ensuring they are active participants in building a healthier and more equitable world. CASD’s journey is a testament to the power of advocacy and community-driven initiatives, reminding us that true sustainable development can only be achieved when no one is left behind, especially the adolescents shaping the future of our world.
